GWC has a well-established fundraising philosophy that has seen the Chapter raise in excess of £60,000 for a wide range of charitable causes over the past 18 years.
Since 1st July 2019 we have been supporting Headway Bristol. This is usually a three year project however due to the restrictions imposed by the Covid pandemic the committee has decided to extend this support until the end of 2023.
During 2020 and 2021 various members have worked in the gardens at the Headway Centre carrying out maintenance as well as rebuilding planters and erecting a potting shed. In 2022 members erected a greenhouse and helped maintain the gardens..
More recently a vertical herb garden has been planted based around a timber pallet and an external xylophone has been created and erected.
At the AGM in December 2022 GWC presented Headway with a donation of £1,000 which will go towards the purchase of an OrCam reading pen. This gadget will support service users with sight impairments , dyslexia or users who have difficultly reading ( due to their brain injury), enabling them to read books and texts to help support their independence.
During 2023 we will continue to provide support to Headway both physically and financially. You can get involved by volunteering through the forum on the website, purchasing raffle tickets and joining the GWC 100 Club.
Headway Bristol is a local registered charity with over 40 years’ experience in helping survivors of brain injury live as independently as possible.
It provides social and cognitive rehabilitation for adults with brain injury and support and respite for their families through the services offered at its centre and through one to one outreach.
It provides an understanding of all aspects of brain injury, focusing not just on the impact on the individual but also on their families and others who care for them.
